Be the BaitOn Palm Sunday, the Gospel of Luke shows us how Jesus fulfills the prophecies of the Promised Messiah.. Jesus shows us that love in his painful choice to walk the road that would bring all of us who have been exiled in sin into the kind of reconciliation with God that not even death can destroy.
On his way to Jerusalem, Jesus passes through Jericho. There he is met by a blind beggar who sees things more clearly than the crowd or the disciples.
In his parable about Lazarus and the Rich Man Jesus teaches us about what matters for eternity in our lives on earth. As Martin Luther teaches us: "We are all beggars". When you know yourself as one who needs the Lord's saving help for eternity, and the same is true for your neighbor- how does that change how you see your neighbor?
Family relationships can be difficult - especially relationships between parents and children. Jesus uses this universal experience to help us understand our Heavenly Father's perspective on each of us and his desire to welcome us home.
The "Good Samaritan" parable is a response to a man testing Jesus. This parable is much more than a moral fable showing us to be good people. When we ask questions of Jesus, are we testing him? Or are we hoping to learn from him?
The transfiguration of Jesus is a turning point in his ministry. But in the miraculous presence of Moses, Elijah, and Jesus, his disciples prefer to create a settlement for them on the mountain rather than following Jesus to the cross.
In Luke 7 Jesus’ kingdom breaks into the stories of this broken world- and redirects them in surprising ways. Jesus gives us a glimpse of the kingdom where one day death will become life, enemies will be made friends, and the Lord will wipe the tears from all faces. Because of Jesus, new life is our future. That is his heart. The chapter you’re walking through today may feel very dark or broken - but because Jesus comes for you- you can trust the joy of resurrection life is also being written into your story!
Jesus' confrontation with the religious leaders about the meaning of the Sabbath has plenty to teach us about our own misunderstandings today.
