New Life, Alongside! In our culture, it's easy to consume things that are not good for us- things that shape our lives in ways that don't look like Jesus. Today Jesus invites us instead to feed on him- and allow him to be the Lord who shapes our lives in his way.
The Church in Smyrna suffered afflictions and poverty for their faithfulness to Jesus. Because of this, Jesus has no words of correction or rebuke, but only words of encouragement and a victor's crown.
In his first of seven letters to seven churches, Jesus has some commendations and corrections he'd like to share with his church. What might he be saying to us today?
The book of Revelation begins with the words, "The revelation from Jesus Christ..." What does Jesus want his church to see and hear from him and are we willing to listen?
Pentecost marks the day when the Holy Spirit was sent to fill the first followers of Jesus in order to send them to the world with the Good News about Jesus. How do we remain filled with the Holy Spirit as Jesus' followers today? And what is at stake if we don't?
In our Gospel today, Jesus tells those who believe in him, hold to his teaching, so they will know the truth, and the truth will set them free. The problem is, they don't realize they've been living enslaved to anything. The same is true today. The things that would hold us captive, heart, spirit and mind, are many. Have you been looking to find life, hope or freedom in things that do not deliver? Jesus comes that through his sacrifice, we who were servants, become part of the family, heirs of the kingdom of his grace, so finding our center in him, we may know true freedom.
How does the Holy Spirit move through the life of a follower of Jesus? Guest preacher, Per Nilsen, teaches us how to stay in the flow.
Philip is a minor character in the book of Acts but he plays a major role in the mission of Christ.
The Bible seems to teach that we are to rejoice in our sufferings, but that sounds like no fun. So what does it really mean? To help figure this out, we look at the early church in Acts and the life of Jesus. What we find is that through suffering, we see the true Gospel of Jesus is revealed to us!
